GENERAL INFORMATION OF THE ENTITY

Proyecto Hombre Canarias is a non-profit, non-denominational and non-partisan Private Foundation; dedicated since 1990 to developing Prevention, Treatment and Insertion Programs for addictions in the Canary Islands.

At the end of the 1980s, from the concern of the professionals in the social action sector and the care teams of Cáritas de Tenerife, formulas began to be sought to respond to a social problem that was beginning to be alarming: the addictions. For this reason, the first therapeutic team that will make up Proyecto Hombre Canarias begins to be trained in different centers in Italy and later in Madrid, until the first reception center is opened in 1991 in Tenerife and in 1993 in Gran Canaria.

The main areas of action of Proyecto Hombre Canarias are the following:

  • Prevention Network. Drug Addiction Prevention Programs are developed in the school, family, community and work environment, with the aim of training socializing agents (school, family, neighborhood and company) as Prevention Agents.

  • Attention, treatment and Social Insertion. Care and treatment programs are developed for substance addictions and other disruptive behaviors, aimed at adults and their families/companions. The goal is to lead a healthy lifestyle, and achieve social and labor inclusion of people.

  • Training . On-site and online training actions are organized on addiction prevention and care, volunteering and social and health issues in general. As well as the continuous training of the Entity's professionals.

  • Volunteering. Volunteering is linked to the origin of Proyecto Hombre Canarias, since it was the figure of D. Antonio Hernández (current President of the Foundation), who initiated the opening of reception centers in the Canary Islands. Currently, the volunteers actively participate in the programs and centers together with the professional teams.

The Asociación Proyecto Hombre is located in Madrid, and represents the methodology and philosophy of the different programs and projects at an international level. Proyecto Hombre Canarias is an active part of it, through several Commissions of Experts: Permanent Commission (governing body of the Proyecto Hombre Association), Volunteer Commission, and Prevention Commission, as well as with its participation in training forums .
